Energy & heating

The hotel’s heating and hot water system is entirely gas-free — the building is supplied by 58°C thermal water and geothermal energy from a depth of 1,632 metres.

🚫🔥

The hotel’s heating is gas-free

We do not use gas at all for heating the building or for hot water supply. The 58°C thermal water rising from a depth of 1,632 metres, together with the geothermal system, fully replaces fossil fuel for these functions. Only 2 gas burners are used in the kitchen — more than 96% of the hotel’s gas consumption has been eliminated.

Frequently asked questions
QHow are the rooms at Gyirmót Hotel heated — is gas used?
No. The hotel’s heating is entirely gas-free: 58°C water rises from the 1,632-metre-deep thermal well and supplies the building’s heating and hot water through a geothermal system. Gas is used only for kitchen cooking, on 2 gas burners (211 m³/month).
QHow deep is the thermal well and what is the water temperature?
The thermal well at Gyirmót Sport & Wellness Hotel is 1,632 metres deep. The rising thermal water is 58°C. It is used for heating, hot water production and heating the 25-metre swimming pool — the entire system’s daily energy consumption is 46.7 kWh.
QHow large is the solar park and how much does it generate per year?
The hotel has a 100 kW peak-capacity solar park, which generates approximately 100,000 kWh of electricity per year. This equals an average of ~274 kWh per day, more than five times the total energy demand of the thermal system.

CO₂ savings

The gas-free heating system prevents nearly 46 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per year compared with a similar-sized hotel heated by gas.

Traditional gas-heated hotel (43 rooms)

~48,4 t

CO₂/year — heating + hot water + pool with gas boiler
Gyirmót Hotel’s actual gas emissions

~1,4 t

CO₂/year — kitchen gas burners only (211 m³/month)
🚗
The ~46 tonnes of CO₂ saved each year is equivalent to an average car not driving around 230,000 km.
🌳
Absorbing the same amount of CO₂ would require around 2,300 trees per year.
✈️
This is equivalent to saving around 46 transatlantic flights by one person each year.
QHow much CO₂ does the hotel save with gas-free heating?
Gyirmót Hotel’s geothermal and thermal-water-based heating system prevents approximately 46 tonnes of CO₂ emissions per year compared with a similar-sized gas-heated hotel. The hotel’s gas emissions come exclusively from kitchen cooking: 211 m³/month on 2 gas burners — only ~1.4 tonnes of CO₂ per year.

* Estimated values. Calculation basis: gas CO₂ factor 2.0 kg/m³; traditional hotel heating standard ~8–9 kWh/room/day; gas boiler efficiency 90%; gas calorific value 10 kWh/m³.

Smart hotel — intelligent energy management

Every hotel room is equipped with a smart system that automatically monitors the most common sources of energy waste.

🪟

Window & door sensors

If a window or the entrance door is open in the room, the air conditioning stops automatically — not a watt is wasted during ventilation.

💡

Motion-sensor lighting

Motion-sensor lighting is used in washrooms and communal areas — lights are on only where and when they are truly needed.

QHow does the hotel reduce energy waste in the rooms?
Each of the 43 rooms is equipped with a smart system: when a guest opens the window or entrance door, the air conditioning stops automatically. Communal areas and washrooms have motion-sensor lighting that switches on only when needed.

🔌

Electric car chargers

Two charging points are available in the car park — with a total simultaneous capacity of 33 kW.

Charging point 1 · AC
~100 km range per hour of charging (average electric car)
22 kW
Charging point 2 · AC
~200 km range per hour of charging (average electric car)
During an overnight stay, both cars can be fully charged
QIs there an electric car charger at Gyirmót Hotel?
Yes. The hotel car park has 2 electric car chargers: one 11 kW and one 22 kW AC charging point, with a total simultaneous capacity of 33 kW. An overnight stay is enough to fully charge both cars.

💧

Water saving

We reduce water use on three levels — from the rooms to the restaurant.

🚰

Aerators in every room

Aerators built into showers and taps reduce water consumption by mixing in air — without compromising the guest experience.

💧

Own water purification system in the restaurant

Our guests receive filtered drinking water and sparkling water from our own water purification system — without plastic bottles.

🛁

Towel change on request

Towels are changed only when guests request it — saving water, energy and detergent.

QHow does the hotel save water?
Gyirmót Hotel reduces water consumption on several levels: aerators in room taps and showers, its own restaurant water purification system (filtered and sparkling water without bottles), and towel changes only on request.

♻️

Waste reduction

From preventing waste to selective collection — across every level of the hotel.

♻️

Selective waste collection everywhere

Selective waste bins are available throughout the hotel — including the corridors — making sorting convenient.

🧴

No single-use mini packaging

We do not use small-sized cosmetic products in the rooms — drastically reducing plastic waste.

🍽️

Conscious breakfast

At breakfast, we encourage our guests to take only as much as they will actually eat — in the spirit of reducing food waste.

🌿

Nature & local community

An 8-hectare park, the shore of a fishing lake and ingredients from local producers — sustainability appears on the plate as well.

🌲

8-hectare park

Our hotel stands in a well-kept 8-hectare park, directly on the shore of a fishing lake. The green area is more than fifteen times the floor area of the building.

🌱

Green interiors

We have also placed many live plants inside the hotel — to improve air quality and create a natural atmosphere.

🥕

Local ingredients

In our supply chain, we prioritise local food producers — fresher ingredients and a smaller transport footprint.

💜

Homemade lavender syrup

Our pastry chefs make syrup on site from lavender grown in the courtyard — a truly handcrafted speciality guests cannot get elsewhere.

QWhere is Gyirmót Sport & Wellness Hotel located?
The hotel is located in Gyirmót, near Győr, in an 8-hectare park directly next to a fishing lake. Opened in 2021, the 43-room building has a usable floor area of 2,500 m² and is surrounded by nearly fifteen times as much green space.
